Being an effective full-time #1 fan requires deploying what I like to call the Four Square Principle. Four square is a children’s playground game that is simple at it’s core yet requires some semblance of interpersonal skills to still have friends at the end of the game. Understanding how to be more empowering to those around you on and off the course is no different.
Over the next four weeks, you will be lead through a series of posts that explain how to take your hype skills to new heights with actionable recommendations, examples, and tips for implementation. My intention is to help you support and motivate your friends, family, and colleagues both on and off the green and, if possible, to make you laugh.
The 4 Core Principles of being a #1 Fan: A 4-part Blog Series
To become an ultimate #1 fan where empowerment becomes a part of your identity and reputation, I believe it’s crucial to embody four key behaviors: Self-love, authenticity, awareness, and consistency. In this series, we’ll dive into each of these qualities in detail, starting with self-love. Here’s an overview of each segment:
#1 – Self-love: Would you be friends with someone who talked to you the way you talk to yourself?
The first blog in this series will focus on the foundation upon which everything else is built: self-love. Meaningful, effective empowerment starts at home. Like, your home, as in your body. Pairing empowering woven tightly into your heart with grace allows being a bright light to become second nature. This is important to me to share because I know how infuriating life and golf can be, and how often people, including me, mumble horrible things to themselves mid-round. We’ll cover why self-love is crucial to becoming the ultimate hype (wo)man, how it impacts our ability to support and empower others, and practical tips for practicing self-care and cultivating self-love sans arrogance. This is that 50% nice I was talking about on the home page. Still a fun post, but this one is important to me to get right. The most, in fact.

#2 – Authenticity: Living your truth is not cart path only.
In Part 2, we’ve go over the importance of authenticity in becoming the ultimate #1 fan. This post addresses what it means to be authentic, why it’s crucial in maintaining your own wellbeing, and how to cultivate authenticity in yourself to be a more empowering person. There’s no direct path to authenticity outside of living your truth and preserving your integrity. I’ll also give you the scoop on my thoughts around being a bandwagon fan. LOTS of sass in this one.

#3 – Awareness: Apollo 13 – because some things just don’t land.
The third blog in this series explores the role of awareness on and off the green. Beyond not talking in someone’s backswing, this post covers the importance of being fully present and engaged in the moment, how to stay aware of what’s happening and adjust your approach accordingly, and explains how our intentions matter less than how the action land with others.practical tips for practicing mindfulness to become a more effective, real deal, #1 fan to those around you. I’ve included high-level steps for how to “hug” people the way they want to be hugged. It also covers the premise of intentions and how it doesn’t matter what your intentions are, it matters how your actions land with others.

#4 – Consistency: Cash is King.
Finally, Part 4 will focus on the importance of consistency in being empowering on and off the course. We’ll discuss why showing up consistently is key to building momentum and achieving long-term goals, and provide tips for staying motivated and engaged over time. As is required when improving a trash backswing or managing your time effectively enough to not roll onto the tee box two minutes before your tee time, consistency is a form of currency and cash is king.
