As we hit the midway point of the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open/our 1-year anniversary trip, it’s been quite the adventure for us thus far. This update will be brief so we can stay present or at least enjoy downtime when the rain hits with full force. Here’s what the trip has looked like:
Monday – Day 1: Made the trip to TPC Scottsdale to get the lay of the land as Monday-Wednesday are practice rounds. As was to be expected, Uber/Lyft drop-off points were challenging to get to, but only on the way out. We walked the entire course and could tell we were in for a treat come regulation play later in the week.
Tuesday – Day 2: We were rained out so instead of being miserable, we stayed in our Arizona Biltmore villa and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Note: because we’d spent our honeymoon with The Biltmore, we were upgraded to a dope boy fresh villa for our 1-year that made for a perfect rainy vacation day hangout spot! (Stay tuned for my take on the leveraging sports documentaries on Netflix to connect with your beaux, coming to you in a special Valentine’s Day post next week.)
That evening, I attended my first NBA game. Suns vs Bucks. We had a blast and slept like little doves afterwards because it was past our 10pm bedtime.
Wednesday – Day 3: Colin scooped up last-minute suite tickets to the absolutely amazing 1937 Suites located on hole 18. The atmosphere was electric, and we managed to catch a glimpse of the celebrity tournament before the weather took a dramatic turn, bringing not just rain but hail to Phoenix. Yes, hail, leaving folks admittedly a bit unprepared.
I learned about Thunderbirds because a few took to Colin and I had to find a way to figure out what the heck I was actually looking at (more on this Sunday). Navigating the muddy aftermath was a challenge, leaving us both exhausted. The day ended on a high note with a delightful dinner at the AZ Biltmore, where we continued to live our best villa life.
Thursday – Day 4: Another day of the weather being too rainy to justify making the trek to the WMPO. Day 1 of the competition portion seemed to be a good time on TV. We’re eagerly anticipating returning to the heart of the action tomorrow, Friday, hopeful for clear skies and the chance to fully immerse ourselves in the golf and first-hand exposure to the tournament’s dynamic we’d missed most of the week.
We’ll be back Sunday with more updates and tales from our adventures at Waste Management. It’s been an unpredictable ride, but still a great time!
