Fore Love & The Game: Our Golf Honeymoon – Take 2

Penning this post from an airport terminal, heading back to STL from our Honeymoon TAKE 2. After our first honeymoon trip to The Biltmore in February lacked golf due to my fresh knee injury, Colin surprised me with a trip to Phoenix this month as much-needed treat.

Several important life moments occurred on this trip.

  1. I fell in love with the weather: Anyone who says 115 is hot no matter the humidity level has never felt desert heat. A temperature that would be unbearable in STL with its ruthless humidity, was moderate – at best. Plus, mist machines cool things down significantly.
  2. I found a new appreciation for the desert landscape: Here’s my favorite parts of the Phoenix area:
    • Spectacular Scenery: Desert golf courses in Scottsdale offer breathtaking backdrops of rugged mountains, vibrant cacti, and endless blue skies. Every swing is framed by the stunning desert landscape. I’m obsessed.
    • Challenging Terrain: The desert terrain adds an exciting challenge to my game. Navigate arroyos, natural hazards, and strategically placed bunkers – up to 111 of them, in some cases, was a blast!
    • World-Class Courses: Scottsdale is home to some of the most renowned golf courses globally, designed by legendary architects. Each one offers a unique experience. This trip, we ventured far into the desert and found a new level of solitude that Colin and I loved.
    • Friendly Locals: Scottsdale’s golf community is known for its friendliness. You’ll find fellow golfers and locals who are passionate about the game and eager to welcome newcomers. When I say EVERYONE was kind, I mean everyone. So very refreshing!
  3. I became a Sea Otter
The high temps required either AC or access to a pool throughout our Honeymoon 2.0. I, however, did not own a swimsuit. One Instacart order later, I was swimming in a real swimsuit and fell in love with the water. I quickly understood an environment I’d avoided due to insecurity-related nonsense was actually more forgiving than I ever imagined. I guess my perception of day club pools was models, and not a single other body type. It turns out, even amongst the world’s most beautiful people, all it takes to have a swimsuit body, is to put one on. Unfortunately, this has turned me into a swimming machine/sea otter/mermaid human. I CAN’T WAIT to get back to a pool. I’ve been missing out, big time!

Our honeymoon 2.0 in Phoenix, with its desert golf adventures, seriously awesome swimming pools, and a new-found level of self-confidence & grace, left me with a profound love for this unique and captivating golfing destination. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a novice looking to explore new courses, Scottsdale’s desert golf and the one million pools offers an experience that’s both challenging and enchanting—a perfect honeymoon destination for golf enthusiasts.

10/10. Would recommend!
